Oud Ghazal hails from Kelantan Malaysia this is the final in the trio that so many Oud heads enjoyed, we saved the best version til last. Those Oud heads who love sweet clean leather and musk will certainly adore this oil. I dont mean harsh animalics, barn or fecal notes but crystal clean, precise and balanced execution of various shades and types of leather, sweet dry musk grains enveloped in an oil that is wrapped in lush greenery, purple/blue florals and equatics.
This is of course a wild oil and has been ageing for the last year, today after opening the cap and applying it, its time for it to be released! The colour if the oil is a deep yellow with lovely dense viscosity. The oil projects strong and for sure the person next to you will get wafts as the oil lasts hours on skin. Im sitting here with my hand glued to my nose, this oil is so unique and beautiful.
Upon application you are hit with a equatic dose of sweet dry musk grains, as if this Oud had been sat macerating in Musk, the imagery of a deer musk comes to mind, theres wisps of mineral rocks, oceans and hide leather, vintage leather jackets, that retro vintage mercedes interior smell.
Once these notes surpass the oil then moves to a more earthy, jungle, floral stage with notes of clay pottery, lush tropical rainforests, purple/blue florals think lilac and blue lotus. The sweet muskiness lingers gently in the back drop with wisps of gently heated chips, raw Oud resin. The oil has a Malaysian “tigerwood” vibe towards the base super woody, dark, rich and full of life.
The oil is regal yet rounded sweet yet bitter dark yet bright, etheral and piercing while maintaining a solid back bone.
Ghazal 3 has such a diverse symphony of notes and is constantly morphing, im always smelling something different, a oil that takes some real studying to truely understand.
