Sulawesi Island is located east of Borneo, well-known for its unique shape, lush green mountains, coral reefs, and beautiful beaches. It’s also an island where you find Agarwood. It’s not often that you find Oud oils from this region due to the rarity of Agarwood and the small size of the island. Sultan Sulawesi changes all that – wild yes, incense grade yes, and the smell? Beautiful.

Slowly juiced from dark, well-resinated Aquilaria Hirta chunks of wood with care and precision. Zero soak; the outcome is a super complex oil that takes your nose on an adventurous journey and captures an in-depth experience from Oud from this region.

The oil is one of the most complex oils I’ve come across, capturing a herbal, golden, medicinal vibe along with earthy and green notes, as well as florals, candy, and a deep, leathery woodiness. The oil has a deep golden-orange hue with a silky viscosity. Off the dipstick, you’re struck with a bright, bittersweet, golden, herbal, jammy aroma. Once applied, there’s a distinct woody, resinous minty note laced with lush green mountains and a breath of the ocean splashing on rocks, the aroma of rain hitting dry earth, followed by freshly cut lime, watermelon, and granny Smith apples.

The mid-phase of the oil leans toward a sweeter phase with florals – think jasmine and lavender and a juicy, cotton candy vibe with wisps of a chip bubbling away on low heat.

The dry down leads toward luxury leather handbags, spices and a dark powerful woodiness that lingers on and on with wisps of smoke.

This oil is only a few months old and honestly has so much going on. It has solid projection and is long-lasting. While smelling it, I’m reminded of so many Oud regions – Malaysia, Indonesia, Borneo, Sri Lanka and Cambodia.
